my name is julianna cecilia salinas and i am a writer based in new york city.
i currently work as an entertainment journalist at reach, writing showbiz & TV news and movie reviews for the mirror US, daily express US, and irish star. i began my writing career freelancing as a horror features writer for collider.com. as a reporter, i have covered the toronto international film festival, new york film festival, and newfest.
i hold a BFA from brooklyn college in creative writing with a minor in film studies. during my time as an undergraduate student i worked as a teaching assistant in english composition and in screenwriting. in 2023, i was awarded the louis b. goodman creative writing scholarship and my poem matamoros was selected as the winner for the academy of american poets university & college poetry prize. in 2024, my original one act play tuesday was selected as the winner of the ottillie grebanier drama award.
my poetry has been featured in the rising phoenix review, the junction, stuck in the library, beyond words magazine, and la piccioletta barca.
i am a first-generation mexican-american and grew up in san antonio, texas. i currently live in brooklyn with my partner and our cat. i love horror movies, hello kitty, roller skating, and beyoncé.
